SPAWN MATE, INC.

Spawn Mate, Inc. was formed in the early 1970's around a patent developed by Penn State University for a delayed release nutritional supplement for mushrooms. The patented process was developed into a commercial product. Spawn Mate began officially in 1976, and by 1979, had built Mushroom Farms, Inc.(MFI) to demonstrate its new supplement concept and products. The idea of a delayed release supplement was one that was new to growers, and Spawn Mate was very successful in creating a new product niche within the mushroom industry. Spawn Mate essentially established itself as the standard for mushroom supplementation within North America. The key to Spawn Mate's acceptance and success lies in several essential product criteria:

  • The products can be added at spawning or casing.

  • The nutrients are delivered in a delayed release form.

  • Nutrient levels are sufficient to provide a significant amount of energy to stimulate yields and provide an economic benefit to the grower.

To this date, all Spawn Mate products have been denatured, providing several key benefits. By varying the type and amount of denaturant and the protein levels, the amount of delay can be varied to fit into different growing systems and farm requirements. Currently Spawn Mate produces three products for the North American market:

All Spawn Mate products are produced in New Albany, Indiana. This plant is an efficient facility that is designed around production efficiencies and flexibility. The plant is also located close to many of Spawn Mate's key raw material in Royal Oaks, California for both research as well as certification of its production. Spawn Mate is constantly researching new methods and formulations for enhancement of mushroom yield and quality.
